Cyprus Legislative Elections 2021 – Party Manifesto Stances on LGBT Matters

Anexartitoi – Allagi Genias: No specific pledges, but manifesto section for Youth Welfare include general mention of anti-discrimination and anti-hate speech legislation (legislation already exists)1

Animal Party Cyprus – APC: No pledges, but stated party positions in support of same-sex partnerships (already exist), establishment of the procedure for gender identity recognition (pending), and criminalisation of homophobic and transphobic rhetoric (legislation already exists)2

Citizens Alliance – SYPOL (runs with EDEK): No pledges in own party positions, or in EDEK’s

Citizens Breath – Pnoi Laou: No pledges

Cypriotism Movement (runs with AgtK): No positions stated, but runs under AgtK’s manifesto

Cyprus Greens – KOSP: No pledges

Famagusta for Cyprus – AgtK: No specific pledges, but manifesto states that legislation should promote LGBT self-determination, equal access to rights, and that the educational system should introduce LGBT aspects in lessons from early on3

Movement of United Cypriot Hunters – KEKK: Same pledges as Anexartitoi but electoral alliance broke off so maybe manifesto obsolete

National Popular Front – ELAM: No pledges

Progressive Party of Working People – AKEL: Specific pledges on hate speech legislation (legislation already exists), end of discrimination in adoption and assisted parenthood, focus on workplace discrimination (legislation already exists), legal process for recognition of gender identity (pending)1

Acceptance means full respect and legislation so that individuals enjoy all their rights equally. The institutional framework should protect, but also act as a brake on every mentality and practice that negates the individual and deprives him of the right to self-determination. The educational system is necessary to recognize the LGBTQI topics and to integrate them interdisciplinary from the first levels, targeting students and parents.

The ‘anti-imperialism’ of idiots Published originally on 14/04/18 by Leila Al Shami  on Leila's blog. Once more the western ‘anti-war’ movement has awoken to mobilise around Syria. This is the third time since 2011. The first was when Obama contemplated striking the Syrian regime’s military capability (but didn’t) following chemical attacks on the Ghouta in 2013, considered a ‘red line’. The second time was when Donald Trump ordered a strike which hit an empty regime military base in response to chemical attacks on Khan Sheikhoun in 2017. And today, as the US, UK and France take limited military action (targeted strikes on regime military assets and chemical weapons facilities) following a chemical weapons attack in Douma which killed at least 34 people, including many children who were sheltering in basements from bombing.
